In the 1980s, the "Rust Belt" was a specific region in the Midwest, and it quickly became a common term that referred to an entire area because of the decline the region suffered in the industrial sector. Beginning in Western New York and expanding through Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Lower Michigan, Northern Illinois, Eastern Iowa and Southwestern Wisconsin. Since the Mid 20th century, the industrial heartland of America lost its prominence due to many economic factors.
In collaboration with Los Angeles streetwear powerhouse The Hundreds, we pay homage to the blue collar people who make up this region with our "Heavy in the Industry" Workwear Project. Industry is a word that derives from and represents the steel and blue collar jobs that made up the Midwest. While also being commonly used for streetwear (i.e. The Streetwear Industry), we felt as though it represented the "Workwear" part of this project. The Hundreds tagline "The Hundreds is Huge" inspired the play on the word huge and brought us to "Heavy." While we are heavily influential in the Midwest, The Hundreds carry the same weight throughout the West Coast. Merged together, we are the Midwest Coast and we welcome you all to the "Rust Belt."
